Mahabalipuram, also known as Mamallapuram, is famous for its exquisite rock-cut architecture, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram.

The city of Mahabalipuram was founded by the Pallava king Narasimhavarman I in the 7th century CE.
It’s renowned for its temples and rock-cut carvings, particularly the Shore Temple, Pancha Rathas (Five Chariots), and Arjuna’s Penance, which are fine examples of Dravidian art and architecture. The town was also a significant port during the Pallava dynasty.
